Conservative Critics Needs To Quieten Down

Telling people I founded an online men's accessories company is often met with blank stares and vacant looks. Their train of thought usually follows this process. 1). What are men's accessories? 2). Are there really enough men's accessories to sell? 3). Are there enough men who buy accessories to build a business from that? The answer to each question is simple. Men's accessories include shoelaces, lapel pins, pocket squares, scarves, tiestie clips and of course, socks. The answer to questions 2 and 3 is yes and yes. Enter Nic Harry. One of the most frustrating comments I have received is "who would wear such colourful and strange accessories?" This line of thought and commentary is often delivered by women more than men. I was at a 30th birthday recently and sat next to a young lady who proceeded to ask me what I did for a living. When I told her that I run Nic Harry, her first comment was that men would never wear bright accessories because they are too feminine, and therefore her boyfriend's masculinity would be compromised. Her opinion was rather close-minded, and I do not enjoy the prejudice that is associated with men wearing bright and bold colours. I find myself always wishing that I had a bit more of a swagger and the world allowed me more leeway for some flair in my wardrobe. Why is it that men are restrained and social awkward when it comes to dress sense? Why do we choose grey, black and white over bright and colourful fabrics? I've had enough of the doom and gloom of men's fashion and urge you to take a stand too. Ladies, if you're shopping for your men - make it something bright and colourful. Gents, if you're out and contemplating a purchase of any kind, opt for the brighter of two evils. Get those kick-ass Puma kicks that shine and shimmy in the sun. Go with that bright red lapel pin  and matching socks. Wear that crazy cow tie. I dare you. I dare you to step outside with a statement item pinned to your suit, tucked under your pants leg or tied into your shoes. Don't be shy of the colour. Go forth. Be bold. Be stylish. Be you.
