Interview with Marco Stichini: cycling sock ambassador

Marco Stichini is our latest sock ambassador and he's incredibly passionate about cycling, making him the perfect choice to wear our newly released Nic Harry Cycling Socks. Read more about the man behind the bike: Nic Harry (NH): Firstly, tell us a bit about yourself. What do you do? Marco Stichini (MS): I work for Dimension Data as a Business Development Manager so I love technology and innovation. I have a passion for sport and travelling, combining the two is often the best choice for me. I am an enthusiastic endurance athlete and love the challenge of doing Ironman triathlons, both mentally and physically. NH: How would you describe your style? MS: In the office, I gravitate towards classic tailored shirts, Windsor collars and skinny pants with a classic hint. I love the classic look. In my spare time you can normally see me wearing jeans and a t-shirt or a fitted shirt should I be out nocturnally. A shirt starts at the collar for me. https://www.instagram.com/p/BNmNaxcDN1a/?taken-by=marcostichini NH: When you’re not on the bike, what do you get up to? MS: Travelling I hope! I’m an adventure-seeking traveller, not into package holidays as they're far too restrictive with no spontaneity. I enjoy chilling with a nice glass of Shiraz. NH: How did you get into cycling? MS: I started cycling at the age of 13 when I was given my first bike; it was an adventure I was in control of. I began to pursue it at a deeper level when I realised I was in control of my destiny. At the age of 15 I was offered sponsorship on a local Cape Town team and it all carried on from there. NH: Where’s your favourite place to ride? MS: I have been privileged to ride throughout most of Europe and can honestly say, the place of choice is the Grandes Alpes in France. The French Alps mountain always inspires me and make me realise what a beautiful planet we have. NH: Do you compete in a lot of races? MS: I do enter quite a few races through the year but tend to focus on a specific few and my year is tailored around those. My main focus is long distance triathlons such as Ironman. https://twitter.com/Colnagoworld/status/803513777606062080 NH: How important is clothing when you’re on the bike? MS: Clothing is an expression of my personality which goes hand in hand with each one of my bikes, one isn’t complete without the other. NH: What is your favourite item of clothing? MS: Jeans. NH: What is the oldest item of clothing you own? MS: A vintage Chinese jacket. NH: Who is your favourite fashion designer? MS: There are a few, Paul Smith comes to mind first. NH: How often do you wear a tie? MS: Not often anymore, I used to wear one every day for 12 years when I lived in London. NH: Favourite accessory? (wrist band, watch, pocket square, tie, etc etc) MS: A wrist watch and sunglasses. NH: How often do you shop for clothing? MS: Not often enough but as much as possible when I'm travelling in Europe. NH: Your least favourite thing to wear? MS: A tie NH: Where do you find style inspiration? MS: I normally get inspiration from observing different styles worn outside of South Africa.
