De Stijl Inspired Bamboo Socks
Seeking inspiration for our latest socks design and I stumbled across the artist Piet Mondriaan. This abstract art drove a movement that inspired a whole spate of artists.
The reduced quality of De Stijl art was envisioned by its creators as a universal visual language appropriate to the modern era, a time of a new, spiritualized world order. Led by the painters Theo van Doesburg and Piet Mondrian - its central and celebrated figures.
The movement is said to have been a reaction to the horrors of World War 1. I felt a deep sense of understanding when viewing the famous Piet Mondriaan work below.
Once I knew that this was the angle that we were heading for our next sock design I handed over to the experts. Jackie Scala has done some incredible designs for us in the past but this was her first attempt at the men's sock range.
We're happy to report that, unsurprisingly, she blew us away with the De Stijl sock.
